Holden Caufield: Relationships(negative)

         Holden Caufield, has a few relationships that dont benefit him too much. He talked to me about Robert Ackley, his old roomate at Pencey school. He told me how nobody ever called him anything but Ackley. He also mentioned how if he ever got married, even his wife would only call him Ackley, or Robert. He told me how he was always so phony and so dirty with his personality.He also talked about Stradlater and how all he cared about was himself and how he looked. It really annoyed him how Stradlater was with girls. Especially with Jane Gallenger. The people he mostly hung around with made him realize how phony people were and how he didn't fit around much with the people he saw most.

Psychoanalysis Blog: Holden Caufield

  After my psychoanalysis evaluation I have come to the conclusion that Holden is a psychotic teen. Psychotic can cover a broad range and multiple different behaviors. To a teen psychotic can mean out of normal. I can also mean a "loss of contact with reality". In Holdens case it means both. Holden is a teen that besides feeling lonely and out of place, saw everything in a different prespective to the way a normal teen would. His carelessness was intended by him as if he didn't care when in reality he thought about what he did thouroughly as to how would it affect him. His forgetfulness was maybe a way of avoiding memories or trying to not remember something that would take him back to old memories. His view of the future showed not to much excitement but in is mind he was already thinking what he was going to do in his life. His relationships with people like Sally Hayes maybe weren't the best but they gave Caufield a sense of having company and not being so lonesome. The thought of being alone made him feel unnoticeable or invisible. All these symtoms and characteristics have classified Holden as psycho.

Holden Caufields: Relationships(positive)

  I had another interview with my patient Caufield today. Todays discussion was about relationships. We discussed about positive relationships and how they benefitted him. He told me about how he liked a girl named Jane G. Gallengher. He was actually quite fond of this girl. He told me how he tried doing anything to keep her happy. He also told me about a time were he kissed Jane literally all over her face. At first it seemed like that was the only positive relationship he had,but he actually discussed a few others with me.  He talked about his little sister. Phoebe W. Caufield. He told me how she didnt like her middle name. He also told me how she was always a great company. Holden said she always had something smart to say. He also told me she was a great listener. Those two people were the ones he discussed the most.

Holden's Emotion

Holden's emotions show a bipolarity that changes with his surroundings, his conversations as for his thoughts as well. Speaking about loved ones or good memories brings him some certain type of momentary happiness. For example, when he talks about his little sister Phoebe. It reminds him about the positive side to peoples character. Holden describes her as pretty, smart, and good skinny. He said she was a good roller skate skinny. This says a lot about Holden's thoughts about himself. He underestimates himself saying his sister is skinny like him, but shes a nice skinny. He also starts talking about how everyone in his family is smart except him. Even though this isn't talking about himself in a good way or setting a positive tone,  at least he isn't talking about how lonesome he feels. He is pretty much always feeling lonesome or depressed. He also talks about sometimes feeling so lonesome that maybe being dead wouldnt be as bad as he thinks.

Holden's Appearance

      I met with my new patient, Holden Caulfield, today for our initial interview. Preliminary evaluation indicates that he might have some signs of anxiety. His appearance shows signs of carelessness and he seems to feel very lonesome. At times he doesn’t care how people look at him. At some moments he actually tries to fit in with society. His appearance is that of any young person. Although he smokes a lot he doesn’t look exactly like a smoker. He seems to like this red hunting hat quite a lot. His hair doesn’t seem to be something he pays too much attention to. I also noticed a bit of dry blood over his upper lip and nose. Nothing to serious about his appearance.
